But as you'll have noticed from the cover, this is not an ordinary issue. It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of Jon Dooley in September and a large part of this issue is dedicated to his memory.
Jon’s impact on the Alfa Romeo community in the UK – and beyond – for over 50 years was remarkable and we tell a small part of that story in the words of some of the people who knew and worked with him over the years.
We also celebrate his achievements in motor racing with an article – first published in 1987 – telling the remarkable David and Goliath story of the Alfa Romeo Dealer Team through the words of Gordon Cruickshank of MotorSport magazine. We’re grateful to him for permission to reproduce the article.
This time last year we couldn’t have imagined the narrow window we’d have to run show-and-shine events over the Summer but somehow, against all the odds, we managed to squeeze a few in!
Richard Murtha went North to Raby Castle for an event run by our good friends at AutoItalia, Paul Newberry reports from Sandwich and Hever Castle in Kent and Kirsty Hodson was at our biggest ever Southern Alfa Day at Stonor Park in Oxfordshire.
Up front, Peter Farquhar joins John Griffiths and Nick Wright in providing an insight into the Club’s activities behind the scenes. Peter Collins dips into his archives for pictures of – or connected with – Jon Dooley’s exploits on the track. We also have a review of Peter’s new book to celebrate Alfa’s 110th Anniversary.
We have something for fans of 60s, 70s and 80s cars with a personal look at Alfa’s Bertone coupés from Chris Lamb and Niall Shaw’s tales of Five GTV6s plus - Duncan Gilkes tale of his two family's Alfas - and Alfsud and a Spider. And we round up the action in Formula 1, the World Touring Car Cup and AROC’s own virtual racing series.
There are plenty of modern Alfas in the four show reports, of course - but rest assured there will be plenty more in the December issue!
